Actor and Singer David Soul Passes Away

David Soul, the actor and singer known for his role as Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson in the television series “Starsky & Hutch,” has passed away at the age of 80 in his adopted home of England.

The British news agency PA, citing his wife Helen Snell, reported that Soul died at the age of 80. In the 1970s, Soul portrayed the character of Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson, with Paul Michael Glaser playing his colleague Dave Starsky in the crime series.

“Starsky & Hutch,” much like the series “The Streets of San Francisco,” captivated audiences with its fast-paced banter and thrilling car chases. Its humorous approach gained a loyal following in the United States and West Germany during the late 1970s.

In 2004, a feature film adaptation of the television series was released, starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as the investigative duo. Soul and Glaser made guest appearances in the film.

Additionally, Soul had a successful career as a singer. Throughout his career, he appeared in various productions, including the American series “Here Come the Brides,” the film “Calahan” alongside Clint Eastwood, and the Stephen King adaptation “Salem’s Lot.” Soul also became a British citizen.

In the mid-70s, Soul embarked on a successful music career. His first two albums remained in the top charts in both England and the United States for months, and his debut hit “Don’t Give Up on Us” topped the charts in multiple countries.

Born in August 1943 in Chicago, Soul was hailed by his family as a “beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother,” acknowledging his talent as both a singer and storyteller. It was stated in the official statement that Soul passed away after a brave battle, surrounded by his family.
