Two people were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a shopping mall in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok. The police managed to apprehend the suspected shooter.

A shooter killed two people in a shopping mall in the Thai capital, Bangkok. Previous reports stating that three people had been killed were corrected. The two victims were identified as a person from China and one from Myanmar.

Thai police announced on social media that they had arrested the suspect at the scene. The suspect is a 14-year-old. Security authorities released a photo showing a man lying on the ground with handcuffs on.

Incident during the evening rush hour

The shopping mall, popular among foreign tourists and home to luxury stores, is one of the most well-known malls in Bangkok and is located at Siam Station, a major transportation hub in the capital. Eyewitnesses reported that hundreds of people tried to flee the shopping mall in a panic. The police closed the nearby train station to prevent commuters from exiting towards the mall.

Prime Minister “deeply concerned”

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, expressed his shock over the incident. He has been informed and has instructed the police to investigate. Thavisin expressed being “deeply concerned” about public security.

Gun attacks are not uncommon in Thailand. Over the past three years, a total of 51 people have been killed in two major attacks.
