Kyiv Flooded: Thunderstorm Hits the Capital with Heavy Rain (Video, Infographics)
Meteorologists have issued warnings about the danger.
In Kyiv, as predicted by forecasters, a thunderstorm with heavy rain struck. The rain first began in the Teremky neighborhood and then spread to other areas of the capital.
In some places, the downpour was so intense that streets turned into rivers. In certain districts, the water level reached people’s knees and even higher.
It is worth recalling that a heightened state of emergency was previously declared in Kyiv due to the adverse weather conditions.
“In the coming hour, thunderstorms will continue until the end of the day on September 8,” the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warned.
Due to the severe weather, a Level I alert (yellow) has been issued.
“Meteorological conditions may lead to complications for energy, construction, utility companies, and transportation,” forecasters noted.
On Monday, September 8, variable cloudiness is expected across Ukraine. During the day, brief rain showers and thunderstorms are likely, except in most western, Vinnytsia, and Odesa regions.
The wind will be from the east-northeast at 5-10 m/s. Daytime temperatures are expected to range from +21°C to +26°C, while in the south and southeast, nighttime temperatures will be between +24°C and +29°C.
In the Kyiv region today, variable cloudiness will prevail as well. No precipitation is expected at night, but during the day, there may be occasional light, brief rain.
The wind will be northeast at 5-10 m/s. Temperatures in the region will be between +21°C and +26°C, while in Kyiv, thermometers are expected to read between +22°C and +24°C.
