Shots were fired during the Super Bowl victory parade for the Kansas City Chiefs. According to the police, one person was killed and more than 20 others were injured. It is unclear whether the incident is related to the parade.

During the large parade in Kansas City, Missouri to celebrate the Super Bowl victory of the Kansas City Chiefs, shots were fired resulting in one fatality. The police believe that over 20 people were injured. Three suspects have been arrested.

US President Joe Biden has been informed of the incident, according to the White House. The mayor of Kansas City, Quinton Lucas, stated that all players, coaches, and staff of the Kansas City Chiefs are safe.

Event area evacuated

According to official reports, the shots were fired near the train station, close to a parking garage. It is unclear whether the incident was related to the victory parade. Television footage showed the evacuation of the event area.

“The investigation has just begun, and we are working on clearing all surrounding areas and businesses,” said Police Chief Stacey Graves during a press conference. She did not provide details about the arrested suspects, and the motive behind the incident is still unknown. “Currently, we have no motive.”

The number of additional injured individuals is still being determined, according to Graves. The injuries reported so far are all gunshot wounds. The fire department has confirmed several severe injuries.

Kansas City Chiefs celebrated Super Bowl title

During the parade, the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their fourth Super Bowl title. The team, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was enthusiastically cheered on by thousands of fans along a 3.22-kilometer route through Kansas City.

The players and coaches were on a red double-decker bus. Due to many schools being closed for the day, numerous children were among the fans. “I am praying for Kansas City,” wrote Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs on X.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in an exciting overtime final of the National Football League on Sunday in Las Vegas. The Chiefs had previously won the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 1970, 2020, and 2023.
