Ukraine denies involvement in drone attacks on Moscow

The Ukrainian government denied accusations that it was directly responsible for the recent drone attacks on Moscow. Ukrainian President Advisor, Mychajlo Podoljak, confirmed that while they welcomed the attacks, they had nothing to do with them. Russia’s Defense Ministry has held Ukraine responsible for the attacks.

Ukraine rules out ceding territories to Russia

Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, ruled out any territorial concessions to Russia and emphasized that Russia must leave the occupied territories. Makeiev said that discussions must also include Russian reparations to Ukraine. The ambassador reaffirmed that Crimea is part of Ukraine, and the country will fight for the freedom of the occupied territories.

Russia’s military spending impacts its government finances

According to the British intelligence ministry’s daily report, Russia’s military spending is burdening its government finances. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) reported that Russia’s defense spending in 2022 was 4.1% of its gross domestic product (GDP). However, due to a lack of transparency, the actual amount Moscow spends on its military is unclear. The British intelligence report noted that military spending would continue to be a strain on the Russian government’s finances.

Russia accuses Ukraine of “terrorist attack” on Moscow

Russia’s Defense Ministry said that Ukraine was responsible for a drone attack that targeted Moscow. Reports indicate that eight drones were deployed in the attack. Although Russian defense claimed to have destroyed all the drones, insiders said the actual number was closer to ten drones. In Ukrainian news, officials deny any involvement in the attack.

Ukraine seeks help for its defense

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj reportedly asked South Korea for air defense and early warning systems. Selenskyj appealed to South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo newspaper, saying that air defense systems are for self-defense only and that they need them to rebuild Ukraine. South Korea has been reluctant to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine due to its relationship with Russia and the potential issues with North Korea. However, the government said that they would reconsider in a situation that the international community could not accept.

Moscow hit with drone attack causing light damages according to Mayor

Moscow was reportedly hit with a drone attack, causing minor damages, according to its mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The attack took place at dawn and no serious injuries have been reported so far.

At least one killed after Russian attacks in Kyiv

A high-rise building in Kyiv caught fire after debris from a destroyed Russian missile hit it, leading to at least one death. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that the top floors of the building had been destroyed, and there could be additional people still buried under the debris.

Air raids continue in Kyiv and other regions

Kyiv has been repeatedly targeted by Russian air raids, which have resulted in falling debris hitting several neighbourhoods of the city, according to reports. The Director of the Kyiv Military Administration also said that the air defense systems had destroyed the incoming missiles, despite the falling debris causing damage to the city. A 27-year-old woman was injured and taken to a nearby hospital in Holosiivskyi district.

Ukrainian Defense Minister hopes for “Eurofighters”

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov expressed hopes that Ukraine would be able to obtain “Eurofighter” jets from Germany and the UK. He believes that a coalition of fighter jets with “F-16”, “Eurofighters”, and “Gripen” jets could be formed along the lines of the current coalition of tanks with the German “Leopard 2”, American “Abrams”, and British “Challenger” tanks.

South Africa to investigate alleged illegal arms sales to Russia

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered an investigation into the alleged illegal sale of arms to Russia. US Ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigety, accused a ship flying under the Russian flag, “Lady R,” of making secret deliveries to a military base near Cape Town. The ship is under US sanctions due to its ties to a company believed to be supplying arms to Moscow, furthering the Russian military presence in Ukraine. South Africa has denied accusations of being involved in such a deal but has not ruled out the possibility of another transaction.
