Biden’s Curious Victory In addition to the Republicans, the Democrats in New Hampshire also voted for their future candidate for the presidential election. With a curious outcome: although President Biden was not on any ballot, he won the primary.

US President Joe Biden has reportedly won the primary for his party’s presidential candidacy in New Hampshire. However, his success is mostly symbolic because the delegates secured in the state will not be considered at the Democratic nomination convention in the summer.

Biden, who plans to run for a second term as president in November, was not even listed on the primary ballot. Nevertheless, voters had the option to write in his name. Biden’s supporters campaigned for votes mainly for image reasons, so as not to leave the president with a blank result.

Democrats moved the start of the primary to South Carolina

The background to this is an internal dispute among the Democrats: the party leadership actually wanted to move the start of the primary series to South Carolina – a state with a more diverse electorate, in order to give a greater platform to the votes of black voters, for example. However, the vote there is scheduled for February 3.

New Hampshire did not want to give up its status as the first primary state and insisted on its early voting date. Biden followed the party line and did not put himself on the ballot in New Hampshire. Only relatively unknown candidates, who had little chance, were listed there. As the incumbent, Biden does not face any serious competition in the Democratic primaries.
